Is parotidectomy surgery risky?
Parotidectomy is an operation performed on tumours of the salivary gland called parathyroid gland. Parotidectomy surgery carries some risks primarily related to the facial nerve. The facial nerve and its branches located in the area of the surgery may be damaged during salivary gland surgery. Therefore, there is a risk of permanent or temporary, partial or complete facial paralysis in these operations.
